Hospital utilizes lean principles to improve work flow
January 6, 2010
Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, put the 5S lean principle to work recently in redesigning its work flow process, reports Hospital News. Two critical care units at the facility had been struggling with equipment, materials, and technology cluttering the free spaces. Utilizing the 5S principles of sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain, a team of caregivers helped reorganize and better utilize the space and equipment.
Thus far the improvement project has helped the hospital save money, kept patients safer, and given caregivers more time at the bedside.
